Valve’s Doug Lombardi says: Half-Life 2: Episode 2 is now delayed to summer of 2007.

It should have sent off bells and flew all sorts of red flags when they announced TF2 would be simultaneously released with HL2:E2. But no! All us gluttons for punishment just cheered, thinking our almost decade long wait was over! What fools we let ourselves be!

So, I guess this is the “episodic content makes shorter release schedules” that Valve was talking about. Oh, and what happened to Steam Friends again? Nevermind.

The PRMM team promised it this weekend and they delivered. The .40 version of Project Reality has been released, currently on torrent only. The main site is getting hammered and has been dropping out a lot today, so here’s the link to the torrent file:

Class limiting, new maps, new weapons, new features, oh my! Obviously I know what I’m going to be doing this Veteran’s Day weekend!

Oh, and I guess the acronym is now “PRM” due to it no longer being called a “mini-mod”.

Welcome to the first full-blown release of Project Reality. Calling us a mini-mod is simply no longer appropriate with the addition of the British Infantry, an Insurgency faction, and a whole bunch of new maps, vehicles and weapons.

The torrent for Project Reality v0.40 is now available.

ChaCha, the search service I mentioned earlier, will be coming out of Alpha officially tomorrow, November 6th, 2006.

They are pretty vague about the upgrade, even to those of us who are guides. But suffice it to say they are making a big deal of promoting the beta, so it should be quite a bit different. The only thing I know is that the offline searches, those that are not done with a guide, are supposed to be much better and more filled out.

Plasma Pong

Players have several new abilities that add fun twists to the classic game. In the game you can inject plasma fluid into the environment, create a vacuum from your paddle, and blast shockwaves into the playing area. All these abilities have fluid-based kinetic effects on the ball, making Plasma Pong a fast-paced and exciting game.

This sounds quaint, but it is actually extremely well done and a blast to play. The screenshot doesn’t quite do it justice.

There is a game distributed through Steam called The Ship. it has been out awhile, but do to relatively low publicity and a quiet launch it doesn’t have a lot of players. Also, it’s still a bit hard to garner exactly what it is about.

The Ship is a game of hunter and hunted. All of the game takes place on various 1920-ish ships. Each round you are charged with murdering another passenger, and there is another passenger assigned to murder you. You do not know who is the person trying to kill you, and you only initially get the name of the passenger you are to kill and their general location updated a few times a minute. Weapons are found all over the ship and range from canes, to screwdrivers, to scalpels, to the ubiquitous fire axe, etc. You get no weapon to start, and if you are caught by a camera or a gaurd with a weapon out, you are fined and sent to the brig for a time.

Killing your prey garners you a prize in cash, while being caught or killing the wrong person deducts a fine from you. You also get bonus money for killing with certain weapons.

Another dynamic is the fact that you have Sims-like “needs”. You build up needs to rest, to eat, drink, go to the restroom, converse, read, play, wash, and others I can’t remember. These keep you from just cowering in a secluded area and you must move about the ship to slake your needs while trying to kill and avoid being killed. It is fun, packed with humor, and a shame that it doesn’t have more players.

The developers are aiming to alleviate that this weekend with a free play weekend. November 2-5, anyone with Steam can download and play the full game. I highly recommend trying it.
