Clean shaven Ricky Williams plays for Canada
Ricky Williams joined the Argonauts, part of the Canadian Football League. I’m sure the fact that Canada turns a blind eye to ganja use has nothing to do with it…
Ah well, I can’t hate on old number 34, as he made some of the best games I’ve watched at UT. But I do have to shake my head sometimes.

Urban Dead
I am shocked to see that I have never made a main page posting about the main draw to the forums.
Urban Dead is a web-based zombie vs. survivor game. I didn’t think I would get hooked on a web-based game since the time I ran Black Nova here (only old school drzy fans will remember… all one of you). I have personally been playing this since last year.
The game has inventory, levels, ability to play as a zombie or survivor, and has pretty regular updates and additions. It creatively uses javascript and CSS to make an almost graphic looking naviagtion system, while still being entirely graphic-less. Although, there are many firefox extensions released that enhance the game.
We have a survivor and a zombie group here at drzy that grew from a CoFR and friends group. Check out the Urban Dead portion of the drzy forums if you are interested in joining our group and have some connection to me, CoFR, or one of the members of our group, MRH.
More info about the game itself is at the Urban Dead Wiki

Dracorex hogwartsia
Seemed to be an obvious joke, but no… A recently discovered dinosaur species has been officially named with the help of a children’s museum to: Dracorex hogwartsia.
“Officially endorsed” by Rowling.
wow.

Freetar Hero
A freeware PC version of Guitar Hero with editable and shareable songs is on the way, called Freetar Hero. The editor is demo’d below, but it isn’t released yet. The actual game will come later.
I imagine we’ll still have to pony up the bucks for the controller and a way to hook it up to the PC.

Blu-Ray Players can Self-Destruct
This copyright “war” is getting a way out of hand. There is already a large enough problem with virii without adding some tasty morsels for the script kiddies to go after. Namely, including a self-destruct code into Blu-Ray players that is engageable from the internet. Yeah, that couldn’t possibly cause problems down the road! I mean Sony’s rootkit was such a great idea, and went over so well… let’s start making things implode!
This controversial technology would require that disc players maintain permanent connections to content providers via the Internet, making it possible for discs that fail a security check to trigger a notification process, enabling the provider to send the player a sort of “self-destruct code.” This code would come in the form of a flash ROM “update” that would actually render the player useless, perhaps unless and until it is taken to a repair shop for reprogramming.

Classic Atari Game Inspired Watches
Fossil is currently selling a new watch line taken from the old home gaming days of Atari. Apparently there will be 3 watches, with Breakout, Centipede, and Asteroids demos running in the background.

It would have been much cooler if they were playable games, but they are still pretty sharp:

Wii Tennis Video
When Nintendo first started talking about the Nintendo Revolution, it sounded like a bunch of hype. I mean, they promised alot for the Gamecube, too, but the final product wasn’t all that impressive.
Later they showed off their unique controller design. This tweaked my interest, but it still seemed like spin to try and drum up support with little actual planning behind it.
Lately there have been a flood of demos and videos released, just before and after the name change to Wii, especially. Each one I see makes me want this console more and more, and I am not much of a console player.
Miyamoto demos the Nintendo controller by playing Tennis on the Wii, in this video. I have to admit, this is how I imagined future gaming would be like when I would wile away hours at the arcade as a kid in the ’80s. Nintendo is really onto something here, and if they can pull it off, especially at a decent pricepoint, I think it’s going to be massive.

Lucas pulls a U-Turn
http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=14373
In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.” Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you’ll be able to enjoy “Star Wars” as it first appeared in 1977, “Empire” in 1980, and “Jedi” in 1983.
After George Lucas said so many times that he would never release the originals, they are finally going to do it. They could have listened to fans for oh, say, for the last 20 years who wanted it, but no! Lucas decided fans didn’t know what they wanted, that only he knew! nyah nyah!
Reminds me of how Steve Jobs laughed at the idea of video on an iPod.
Or, when Metallica said they would never release a music video.
Never say never, especially when money is involved.
