I heard about this game awhile back, but blew it off because I was a little tired of the “CS-killer” genre, and I thought this was just one of those Quake/UT mod type games.

Well, I was reading gamespy last night, and they said that a new demo was out and that we should check out this “photo-realistic” shooter. I thought those were pretty strong words. Graphics are really nice in today’s games, but hardly are photo-realistic. But I saw some screenshots and a movie off their site www.p3int.com and downloaded the new multiplay demo.

Ok, just to get this out of the way, the demo is very very buggy. If you try to set certain buttons (like reload or forward and back) the game crashes to desktop. Basically, trying to set any function to a key on the right side of your keyboard is hit-and-miss. Plus sound doesn’t work except a faint echo. I saw n their forums that these are common problems. I saw that if you turn audio hardware accceleration off, that you can hear sounds. Well that worked (it works for lots of games that have DirectX sound issues).

BUT! I decided to not worry so much about it and just take a look. This game’s environment’s are stunning! Firstly, almost everything casts a shadow, I saw shadows on the inside of a paintbucket in a building. In some places there were 60+ lightsources (hitting F1 shows you a bunch of info) and my frames didn’t dip under 150. The architecture is beautiful.

The town you play in in the demo is called “Sweden” (the developers are Swedish, but they don’t wear leather straps) and it is very immersive. I was most impressed with teh two shops. The colors looked true to life and the textures didn’t betray any falseness. I wouldn’t call it photo-realistic… but the only thing I’ve seen on par lately are the demos for DoomIII and possibly SWG. SOF2 has nothing on this.

I couldn’t join any servers, and I noticed all the servers on refresh only had 1 person… making me think no one could join internet servers. Apparently it works fine in a LAN… as the movie demo they released a few weeks ago shows.

Set to release in a few months, this could possibly be a great game!
